Embracing The Mobile Lifestyle

Mobile Lifestyle Update: So far Deyl and I are 3 weeks into the adventure. The first 2 weeks we mostly slept, celebrated euphorically and pinched ourselves that we were actually doing this. We learned that Spaniards don't mess with siestas, you have to weigh your fruit and apply the bar code at the grocery store, they don't refrigerate milk and not ordering alcohol midday with your meal makes you the subject of much speculation. Meanwhile, our home swappers seem to be having fun eating the local Santa Barbara cuisine -- which to my surprise meant eating SNAILS off our driveway!

Last week we ran amuck with our friends (see below) and today I actually got the odd feeling of needing to do something productive. I am funneling that feeling into finishing up my book and will be sending it out to be reviewed next week. Being removed from your culture like this allows unparelled perspective and hence tremendous clarity on one's life. I can hear my own thoughts and feelings with such volume, which has been nice at times and challenging at others. I see how normal distractions at home keep me from listening.

Today was the first day I started to miss home -- mostly my friends, American food, family, my dog Lucy, and the English language. I feel great purpose in our trip and enjoy the excitement of being a guinea pig in this life experiment.

Below is a slide show Deyl created of the last 6 days when our great friends Kiah & Anna, Shane & Anna joined us in Spain. We had wonderful and meaningful time with them.
